"Fare"..... as is in the things unique about "My Island"

My Island

  • It has been written that if you spend one night on an island, your life will never be the same. I believe that. For the last 20 years I have lived on Orcas Island, one of the archipelago islands called The San Juans which is located in Puget Sound in Washington State, U.S.A. Before that I lived on some bigger islands, like Australia, Japan, Vancouver and the home of New York City - Manhattan Island.

The U.S. Geological Survey says there are more than 18,000 named islands in the U.S. and it's possessions. That's a lot of islands! Can you imagine how many named islands there are in the world? The fascinating thing about islands is that each one is truly unique. Think about it. As many things unique as there are islands. How cool is that?

We have created www.islandfare.com as a place where "islanders" can gather - allbeit via the magic of The Internet - and in addition to just being a member, and maybe take the time to tell us what there is about your island that makes it unique. What brought you to your island? Weather?, Sunsets?. Flowers?. People? Theater? Artists?. Vacation? Or maybe something the rest of us have never heard of. One of the things my island is famous for is the food grown and served locally. How about school lunches, prepared and served by the guy what grew'em.

No, we won't sell your e-mail address and we don't do ads. What we will have is a collection of information about islands not found anywhere else. We won't call you out if there's a little bragging. Pride is infective and permitted. Your message can be as short or long as you want but we really want your message to be personal. We might edit it if it sounds too much like a commercial.  We want to be community driven, not commodity, and as we grow to have something to give back.

As www.islandfare.com grows we plan to have some very exciting additions, like store fronts featuring goods and products that are grown, put together and displayed on an island by "islanders". We are calling that "ShopSpots". Stay tuned. It won't be long.

And finally, Charter Membership registration and space to share your island with other "Islanders" is really free - at least for awhile.

We are really interested in your feedback. We are always available at info@IslandFare.com

Mainlanders just don't get it, do they?
